Safari Plumbing Ltd.

Last spring we moved into our new Mattamy Home in Half Moon Bay. Our dishwasher needed to be installed. We would normally do it DIY but due to the fact we upgraded our kitchen, thus moving the dishwasher away from the kitchen sink and across the room, we opted for professional help. The dishwasher now sits along the wall and the sink is in the island… as you know you would have to run drain and water connections under floor in the basement from the sink to the dishwasher. Less than 12 feet but still needing expertise in what you’re doing. Right? So we called around and got quotes ranging from $500 and up for this 2-3 hour job. Frankly I’m not sure any plumber knows how to do this since we ran into about three ways of doing this job and only one seemed to be logical to us. That one being offered by Safari Plumbing which required some drilling and hoses etc but made the most sense. Other solutions required much more elaborate routing to the water line and drains. After three hours or so they were done and left the job site. On running the machine for the first time, it wouldn’t run… So we called Safari Plumbing and they said it must be the dishwasher. We found out from Sears that the loop hose in the side of the dishwasher was used by the plumber for extension hose to run the drain line. This caused all water in the dishwasher to syphon out to the drain rather than fill the machine. Stupid huh? So we called the plumber back and he ended up having to reorder this part from Sears. After another week with no dishwasher we finally had it fixed, or so we thought. About 8 months later we developed a leak. We called Safari and they said that if they came out (even though they have a two year warranty on their work) and found that it was something wrong with the dishwasher they would charge us a service call. This I’m not sure but could be $70-$100 dollars. So we tried to find the leak ourselves. Couldn’t find it. So we called Sears (who we decided to buy a service plan with) and they came out to inspect the machine. What they found was a poor installation job. The feet on the front of the dishwasher were not properly levelled so the door wasn’t square and didn’t close right. Secondly the hose that Safari had to replace wasn’t connected well and was ready to fall off and that is were the leak was. This was a potential disaster if it came loose on our hardwood flooring. So all in all Safari caused at least three problems in their costly dishwasher installation. A job we paid $669.90 for and had trouble from day one and not once did Safari come out to find the problem… we had to call Sears every time. I don’t know why we had these problems from someone that should know better, but we did. The choice is yours of course but I know next time I need a plumber I’ll go with someone else. They do drive a nice van though…
